Sundowns Sign Brazilian Star

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the signing of their newest addition: Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

In a tweet shared on Thursday, 6 July, the 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder is joining Masandawana from Belgian side, SK Beveren. His salary and the length of his contract are not yet known.

“I am really excited to be here and I cannot wait to dance to the sound of the drum that encapsulates the yellow nation,” Costa told sportscaster Lindiwe Dube in a clip accompanying the tweet.

Costa has scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for Beveren, of which 11 were scored during the Champion Pro League last season. He has also contributed 10 assists.

Prior to this, he had been signed to Sporting Charleroi and loaned out to clubs like RWDM47, Excel Mouscron and Waasland-Beveren.

Costa is Sundowns’ third big signing, having signed Junior Mendieta from Stellenbosch FC and Lesiba Nku from Marumo Gallants in recent weeks.

The exciting new midfielder is already in the country and is likely to start training immediately with his team-mates at Chloorkop before they take on Dutch outfit, NAC Breda, in a friendly match in Amsterdam on 28 July.
